180px-ThiagoalvesWell, you can't always get what you want.

One day after Thiago Alves (17-7 MMA, 9-4 UFC) welcomed a fight with Mike Pierce, who on Tuesday called him out on MMAjunkie.com Radio, the former contender is now expected to meet John Howard (14-5 MMA, 4-1 UFC) at UFC 124.

Sources close to the event today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that verbal agreements are in place and contracts will be sent out shortly.

While not yet officially announced by the promotion, UFC 124 is expected to take place Dec. 11 at the Bell Centre in Montreal and feature a welterweight title fight between current champion Georges St-Pierre and challenger Josh Koscheck, who coach opposite each another on "The Ultimate Fighter 12." It's the promotion's fourth trip to the Canadian city.

Karo-ParisyanLess than a year after Dana White tweeted that Karo Parisyan would never fight again in the UFC, "The Heat" has been welcomed back to the organization and offered a fight against Dennis Hallman at UFC 123 in Auburn Hills, Mich.

MMA Fighting confirmed the news with two sources close to the situation, as well as Parisyan himself Thursday afternoon.

Both Parisyan and Hallman have yet to sign the bout agreements, which have been issued to both fighters, but both fighters have verbally agreed to the welterweight bout.

Parisyan (19-5-0, 1 NC) only competed once outside the organization since he was unceremoniously fired two days before UFC 106 last November when he pulled out of a fight against Dustin Hazelett. He submitted Ben Mortimer at Impact FC 1 in July.

44_lOnce the rematch between UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and challenger Chael Sonnen is sorted out, the 185-pounder next in line will most likely be the winner of Vitor Belfort vs. Yushin Okami.

Belfort confirmed Wednesday on Twitter that he will face Okami on Nov. 13, which is the date of UFC 122 in Oberhausen, Germany. Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer was first to report of the matchup.

Belfort (19-8) is returning from a shoulder injury that forced him out of a title shot against Silva at UFC 112 in April. While Belfort holds recent knockout wins as a middleweight over Terry Martin and Matt Lindland, he hasn't actually fought at that weight yet in the UFC. Belfort's last fight was a knockout against former champ Rich Franklin one year ago at UFC 103 in a bout contested at a catchweight of 195 pounds.

KenufcoldKen Shamrock's next fight has been signed and it will be against Johnathan Ivey for the USA MMA promotion on Oct. 16 in Lafayette, La.

MMAFighting.com learned Wednesday from sources close to the event the Shamrock vs. Ivey headliner as well as the co-main event, Ricco Rodriguez vs. Mike Perez.

The always-controversial UFC Hall of Famer Shamrock (27-14-2) made news again in June when he signed to face fellow UFC veteran Pedro Rizzo at Impact FC 2 and admitted to the use of steroids during his career on HDNet's Fighting Words. Shamrock went on to lose in a sad outing to Rizzo on July 18 by way of TKO due to leg kicks. Shamrock has lost eight of his last 10 fights dating back to February 2002.

markhuntinshapeFormer PRIDE and K-1 star Mark Hunt is taking his last kick at the can of his mixed martial arts career seriously as evidenced by the photo above. Not only has he transformed his body from its rotund former self, he has also joined American Top Team, where he will spend the last month of his training camp preparing for his September 25 UFC debut opposite former fellow super heavyweight, Sean McCorkle at UFC 119 in Indianapolis.

KazuoMisakv2In the United States, there are athletic commissions involved, which set rules and sanction bouts. Athletic commissions are in place for many things, one of the big reasons is for fighters' safety when they are competing. It came out in a recent interview with Kazuo Misaki that he injured his ankle and required shots of painkillers so that he could compete. To no one's shock, this has yet to really be addressed as in Japan, there are no athletic commissions to monitor or test the athletes. It isn't clear from here what Misaki had injected into him or what sort of advantage it would give him in a fight, but regardless that would not fly in the US. There has been some debate over the use of Cortisone shots in MMA, and it is plausible that is what Misaki used here, but that could compromise Misaki's safety if his ankle was further injured.
